Blog Journaling Challenge #2

This post is for a journaling challenge for a group I am a part of-

My favorite thing about fall when I was a kid were the holidays. Halloween was fun, but I think I enjoyed Thanksgiving the best. Thanksgiving usually meant getting together with family that we hadn't seen for awhile. I come from a large family. There are 17 grandchildren on my dad's side, and 14 on my mom's side. That makes for quite a gathering on Thanksgiving! We usually alternated between my mom and dad's family, since neither one lived very close to us. I really enjoyed the festivities- the excitement that came with special dishes being prepared and family coming over. I especially enjoyed the time spent with my cousins. We always got along pretty well, and usually convinced one of my aunts to drop us off at the movies for an after-Thanksgiving dinner movie.

Now that I'm grown up, we aren't getting together with the big group as often anymore. And that's ok with me. My cousins are growing up and having kids of their own. No one's house is large enough to hold everyone comfortably. So my parents are now the grandparents and their house is the house that we often go to. Not too many grandchildren yet, but I'm sure that will come with time. As long as I get to be with family, that is all that really matters to me.

It's funny how so many people make family visits priority during the holidays. I guess those are the days people commonly have off from work, and with people living so far from each other, as opposed to a few decades ago, family just doesn't get the chance to meet up that much.
Hope you guys are doing well--can't wait to see your scrapbooking blog.

If you hadn't done a head-count during that blog, I probably would still not know how many cousins I have.

Too many to count. Counting both sides, we have 23 first cousins.
