A Beautiful Weekend

This past weekend was just gorgeous here in Michigan. You just could not beat the weather. As I've said before, fall is my favorite time of year. I just love the crisp air, the beautiful colors, the apples and pumpkins...need I say more?

Well, I promised a trip back to the orchard and last weekend proved to be the perfect time. My mom and dad came over for a visit and we were all in the mood for the great outdoors. Plus, I never lose an opportunity to introduce someone to the fun at Blake's Orchard!

We arrived at the orchard around 11am. It wasn't too busy, so we actually found a parking spot. I'm telling you , this place is THE fall destination in this area. You don't get there early, you don't get a parking spot. We decided to bypass the Family Fun Yard (aka expensive petting farm) and went straight to the pumpkin patch. My dad told the girls that they could each pick a pumpkin out. Emma basically picked Ella's out, since Ella was too busy wandering around to even know what was going on. ( I think the whole experience screamed "Freedom" to a busy 10 month old!)

After the pumpkins, we set out to the orchard to pick another 1/2 bushel of apples. This time around we got Empires, Fujis, Mutsus (we had never tasted these, but we heard somebody else looking for these so we figured they must be good!), and maybe a few Northern Spy. Needless to say, I'm dreaming up all kinds of apple recipes that I HAVE to try. I'm thinking, apple bread, apple cake, apple bars, etc.

A visit to Blake's isn't complete without cider and donuts. And at Blake's cider and donuts is SERIOUS business! A gallon of cider and a dozen donuts will cost you roughly $12 total. We got in line with about 100 other people and picked up a 1/2 dozen of each. I don't even think I half to tell you that those donuts were gone in about 2 minutes flat. Ok, Ella took a lot longer to eat hers, but even she managed to consume an entire donut! The cider was great too- nice and smooth, with no bite to it.

Overall it was a great day. I really enjoyed being outside with my family and breathing in some fresh air. The leaves are changing so fast, I know it will be snowing before we know it (this week, to be exact, although they are forcasting that it won't stick. Hmm.). I plan on enjoying it while we have it. And this next weekend will bring an entire weekend of scrapbooking-you can be sure some fall layouts will be included!

hi friend! I'm so glad you guys got to have a fun time away from the stress and craziness of life! It sounded like great fun. We've yet to go to our favorite place-its been too hot and we would like to go on a weekday-but we did go to a different orchard and had a mini fall day(I'll have to steal your idea for my next post!)

Missy - my phone number hasn't changed in three years! And I'm hardly going to publish my address on here...

Melissa,
it was great to talk today--we miss you guys so much. It's amazing what the Lord is doing in each of our lives.
Your pictures are beautiful; for some reason I can't get the blogger to post mine on my posts. It just uploads them, and then...?
Scott keeps telling me to switch to Beta Blogger--he thinks it's easier to post pictures with it, but I'm afraid to lose my customization.
So, we'll have to send you guys some pics
We love you!!

Sammy-Thanks for calling today! it was nice to talk, even if only for a few minutes.

Julie-like I thought you would give out that info on here. I just meant that communication goes both ways, sis!

Chanda-good to talk to you today too. Yep, we are all going through a lot. It's good we have each other to talk to! I had trouble uploading my pictures too. I was trying to do it all at once. I tried doing them seperately, and that is when it finally worked. You may want to give that a try.
