I'm still here

Yes, I know it's been forever since I've posted to my blog. I'm still here, although not very often anymore! The past few weeks have gone by in a blur. I've been working 30-40 hours a week, which doesn't leave much time for anything else. We have managed to squeeze in a few fun-filled family activities though.

A few weeks ago we took a trip to the apple orchard. This would have to be my all-time favorite fall activity. We usually go during pumpkin patch time, but this year we decided to add an extra visit during apple-picking season. We went with some friends to Armada- some of you may have recently seen this small town, as it was featured in Extreme Makeover, Home Edition last Sunday (the lady with the 6 children who lost her husband on Christmas Eve).

Anyway, we did the "you-pick" kind of thing- drove out to the apple trees and let the kids loose. Many instructions were shouted by all adults in attendance- "Don't pick the green ones! Leave the yucky ones on the ground alone! Don't touch any with worms! Ok, stop picking, we have enough!" We managed to fill 1/2 a bushel in about 10 minutes flat. That sure was an expensive 10 minutes, at $16.75 a 1/2 bushel. Fortunately we split it with our friends.

So now my kitchen is overflowing with apples. It appears that even 1/4 of a bushel is still quite a lot of apples! I've made some apple crisp and Emma has been enjoying them "with the skin on, Mama," as she would put it. The next trip up to the orchard will be next week, most likely. Pumpkins will be chosen, but this time they will be for decoration. There's no way I'm going to all the effort to make my pumpkin pie from a raw pumpkin. No way- canned pumpkin is just fine for me!

I'm so glad you guys have had a chance to do the fun stuff; sometimes when things get hectic, that's the first to go! I know you have been busy--hope to get a chance to talk sometime this week or maybe this weekend. Things are fine here--just want a chance to catch up a little.
By the way, what is your e-mail address? I have something to send.

Love you guys,
Chanda
